Application of Underglaze to Greenware - $85

In this 4 hour workshop participants will learn a systematic step-by-step underglaze application on pottery and on slab work.  Participants will learn how to merge two colors with a brushing blending technique. Upon having applied multi-colours of underglaze to a slab, they will acquire a basic painting technique with the use of the underglaze. Participants will learn how to trim and cut out the artwork. They will also receive a demonstration on how to apply underglaze to pottery with the use of a decorative wheel. The second half the workshop will be dedicated to an introduction to the basic of clay relief work. Participants will do relief work on pottery and/or slab work. Upon completing this workshop, participants will acquire the basic skills to apply and blend underglaze on greenware and the understanding of basic relief work with clay. All materials included. Open to beginners. Ages 16 years – adult. Instructor is bilingual.

Greenware is the term given to clay objects when they have been shaped but have not yet been bisque fired, which converts them from clay to ceramic.

One Night on the Wheel Workshop - $57

Have you wanted to try making pottery on the wheel? Here is your opportunity to enjoy one evening discovering the art of throwing clay. During this 2 hour workshop you will learn to throw one small pot. After the workshop our technicians will trim and fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in 2 weeks. Come and relax while experiencing the joy of clay. This workshop is open to clients 14 years and older. All materials included. $57 +HST each. Additional pots made if client chooses to keep them will be $6.19 +HST each.

In this 7 week class Vanessa will show the basics of handbuilding for both functional and decorative ceramics. The class will experiment with different decorating styles using patterns, applique embellishments, and underglaze colors and slips to enhance the work. Vanessa will bring Duncan and Amaco underglaze to the class to experiment with color. There will be a deeper tutorial in glazing and decorating techniques to enhance patterns and textures on the students work.  No prerequisite. Ages 16 to Adult. Wear washable clothing appropriate for working with clay. One bag of clay included. Please bring an apron or old towel to protect your clothes.

This course is an introductory wheel course. Class duration 2.5 hours for 7 consecutive weeks. The student will cover the basic techniques for the beginner. You will first learn the art of centering the clay which will allow you to make different pot shapes. Trimming a foot onto a pot and surface decoration is covered. Recycled clay included. No prerequisite is required. Ages: 16 to adult

Adult Wheel Level 1.5 - $298

This course is aimed at students who have completed Level 1 and wish to advance, but still require more guidance from the instructor for the full 2 1/2 hour class. The class will progress towards more advanced forms including covered forms, bowls, and closed-in forms. One bag of clay included. Prerequisite: Be able to consistently centre and throw a cylinder as high as it is wide. Ages:16 to adult. Please bring an apron or an old towel to protect your clothes.

Gingerbread House Workshop (all levels) - $50

Come and create 1 beautiful handbuilt pottery Gingerbread House. During this 3 hour workshop participants will use handbuilding techniques such as slabs, coils and carving to build the house. Once the house is constructed the participants will apply the slip trailing technique to decorate the house. Our technicians will take care of glazing and firing the house in our kilns. Your gingerbread house will be ready 2 weeks after the workshop for you to pick up. (minimum age 7 years) no prerequisite.
