Low Ratio Adult Handbuilding Plates and Trays - $300

In this 6 week class the student will focus on making plates and trays. The class will utilize several handbuilding techniques including press forming, hump and slump molds. These forms provide lots of area to explore several surface decorating techniques such as slip transfer, sgraffito, masking, and more. No prerequisite, but previous handbuilding experience recommended as techniques are more advanced. One bag of clay included. Ages 16 to Adult. Please bring an apron to protect your clothes.

Low Ratio Open Studio Course - $225

This new 6 week class is intended for experienced artists that are looking for an opportunity to explore their own ideas and projects on the wheel. This class will be student driven with no set curriculum, but an instructor will be present for guidance. Students must have taken a class previously at Gloucester Pottery School and they must be able to center and throw unassisted.

This class is 3 hours instead of the normal 2.5. Class will take place in studio 2, and following our Covid policies, students must stay in studio 2 for the duration of class.

Clay is not included – it can either be purchased new from the school or clay previously purchased from GPS can be used. Each student will be given a $50 glazing firing credit that must be used during the 6-week session. If student wants to glaze fire more items they can pay for their additional firings.

* If interest in new Open Studio course grows, the school will look to expanding program.

A new after school program! Children will have fun learning basic handbuilding techniques. Students are encouraged to express their own creativity with each piece. Returning students are given more challenging projects and materials are included. 7 to 13 years

Low Ratio Adult Wheel Level 1+ - $300

This course is aimed at students who have taken level 1 wheel and have a basic understanding of wheel throwing but want to focus on improving their ability to center and throw consistently. Class duration 2.5 hours for 6 consecutive weeks. The class will cover the fundamentals of wheel throwing from centering to pulling walls to trimming. Recycled clay included. Prerequisite: Level 1 wheel. Ages:16 to adult

Low Ratio Introduction to Ceramics - $300

This 6 week class is the perfect introduction to ceramics; students will learn the basics of working with clay through handbuilding. The class will teach you about clay, studio safety, and a variety of handbuilding and surface decoration techniques establishing a strong foundation with the material. We recommend this class to anyone looking to get started making pottery, it is a great first class in your ceramic education. One bag of clay included. No prerequisite. Ages 16 to Adult

Low Ratio One Night on the Wheel Workshop - $99

Have you wanted to try making pottery on the wheel? Here is your opportunity to enjoy one evening discovering the art of throwing clay. During this 2 hour workshop you will learn to throw one small pot. After the workshop our technicians will trim and fire your piece and it will be ready for you to pick up in 2 weeks. Come and relax while experiencing the joy of clay. This workshop is open to clients 14 years and older. All materials included. $99 +HST each.

This course is aimed at teens and adults who have completed Level 1 and wish to advance, but still require more guidance from the instructor for the full 2.5 hour class. The class will progress towards more advanced forms including lidded forms, bowls, sets, and closed-in forms. Prerequisite: Be able to consistently centre and throw a cylinder as high as it is wide. Ages:12 to adult. Please bring an apron or an old towel to protect your clothes.

In this 6 week class the student will focus on lidded vessels. The class will utilize several handbuilding and surface decorating techniques to create lidded vessels including a teapot and butter dish. No prerequisite, but previous handbuilding experience recommended as techniques are more advanced. One bag of clay included. Ages 16 to Adult. Please bring an apron to protect your clothes.

In this 6 week class the student will learn the basics of handbuilding for both functional and decorative ceramics. The class will experiment with different decorating styles using patterns, applique embellishments, and underglaze colors and slips to enhance the work. There will be a deeper tutorial in glazing and decorating techniques such as sgraffito, to enhance patterns and textures on the students work.  No prerequisite. Ages 16 to Adult. Wear washable clothing appropriate for working with clay. One bag of clay included. Please bring an apron or old towel to protect your clothes.

This course is aimed at students who have completed Level 1 and are able to consistently center and throw a cylinder as high as it is wide. This more advanced class will push students to make more technically difficult forms including lidded vessels, bowls and closed in forms. One bag of clay included. Prerequisite: Ability to center and pull walls up consistently, if unsure please contact the school to discuss which class is best suited to you. Ages 16 to adult.

This course is an introductory wheel course. Class duration 2.5 hours for 6 consecutive weeks. The student will cover the basic techniques for the beginner. You will first learn the art of centering the clay which will allow you to make different pot shapes. Trimming a foot onto a pot and surface decoration is covered. Recycled clay included. No prerequisite is required. Please bring an apron or old towel to protect your clothes.

Ages: 16 to adult

Glazing Workshop - Members Only - Free

An opportunity for members to come and glaze their bisqueware. No studio time/membership fees for returning members during the month of October. The usual glaze firing fees will apply. Limit of 6 members at a time during each 2 hour block. All surfaces touched must be disinfected at the end of each session.
