Position: Ceramic Wheel Instructor

Position Type Permanent Part-time

3 hours to 9 hours a week (*summer, fall, winter, spring sessions) *you can choose to work every session or one session

Regular shift 6:15pm-9:15pm (class 6:30-9:00pm)

Evenings available: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday

Pay per hour $25.00 – $50.00 per hour (compensation commensurate with experience)
Position start Date July 2 or September 3
Position Summary and Essential Job functions The hired candidate will be a team player with strong interpersonal skills. The candidate will have the following responsibilities:

·         Instruction of wheel courses following the approved course curriculum

·         Demonstrates and teaches students regarding tool use, equipment and technical aspects related to the art program

·         Instructs all classes on the dates and times as agreed, being responsible for the safety and supervision of program participants

·         Keeps track of attendance of classes

·         Reports any changes to your regular class schedule (absent students, inclement weather) to administration promptly

·         Communicates Gloucester Pottery School Health and Safety Policies and other pertinent information to students

·         Prepares course curriculum to the administration (template provided)

·         Distributes course curriculum and surveys to the students

·         Identifies and reports repairs to studio equipment as required

Qualifications Candidates should have:

·         Strong communication and Love of creative art

·         Ability to follow direction and multitask

·         1-2 years wheel instructional experience

·         2 years technical ceramic knowledge: technical knowledge and experience related to the specified medium including studio experience

·         Knowledge of ceramics including glazing and kiln loading

·         2-5 years of consistent throwing

·         Knowledge of Health & Safety practices in relation to working in the studio arts and specified medium

·         Candidate must attend “New Employee Orientation” training run by the Gloucester Pottery School and/or the Shenkman Arts Centre (SAC).

·         A Police Reference Check will be required as a condition of employment for this position.

Assets Preferred candidates would have these assets but not essential:

·         Degree or Diploma in the specified medium OR equivalent combination of education and experience

·         First Aid and CPR

Position: Ceramic Student Wheel Internship

Duration: 7 consecutive weeks

Every Thursday from April 25 – June 6, 2019

3 hours(shift 6:15pm-9:15pm)

Pay per hour: $15.00
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director the hired candidate will learn the following:

·         Steps of wheel throwing

·         Preparing and teaching students wheel throwing

·         How to give a proper demonstration

·         What cues to look and listen for when helping a student

·         Ceramic technique work including glazing and kiln loading

Qualifications Candidates should have:

·         Minimum of 16 years of age

·         1-2 years throwing experience

·         Enrolled in or graduated from a Visual Arts Program with a ceramic wheel component in high school or college

·         Love of creative art

·         Good communication skills

·         Outgoing personality

·         Detail oriented and ability to follow direction and multitask

Assets: Preferred candidates would have these assets but not essential:

·         Working knowledge of French

·         First Aid and CPR

Essential Job functions: Candidate will shadow the instructor and aid in the instruction of a Level 1 wheel class of adults. Candidate will abide by the health and safety policies and procedures of Gloucester Pottery School.
